The moon, our closest neighbor in space, is a satellite of our home planet. Satellites move around planets the way the moon moves around the earth. Do you know how long it takes the moon to go around the earth one time?

Young readers, ages six and seven will learn about the moon, its phases, and how the moon’s gravity affects the earth. They will explore the moon with the astronauts; they’ll learn about craters and moonrocks, and more in this Scholastic Science Vocabulary Reader that introduces first- and second-grade students to Earth’s only natural satellite. Using pictures, diagrams, and a simple text to help strengthen reading skills and vocabulary, the book addresses three main topics: What Is the Moon?, The Moon and the Earth, and To the Moon!. In each section, Fast Fact boxes provide interesting information related to the topic.

A glossary and three comprehension questions help young readers assess their understanding of the information presented in the book.

Highly recommended, especially for students interested in science, the moon, and /or space exploration.

This book talks about all different homes, underground, in the trees, even in the water. We follow and learn about different animals and their reasons for living in a particular area in the rain forest.
This book is a great book for struggling readers. There is a large font and the words are understandable. Any hard words listed are in the back under a list of definitions and pronunciations. This book would go along great with a lesson in habitats.

Summary:Rain Forest Homes not only discusses were the animals of the rain forest live, but this book also discusses the damage humans are creating within the Rain Forest. Limited vocabulary, inviting photos, and interesting fact will keep a child reading. Comprehension questions are on the back page to support deeper thinking.
Media: Photographs
Genre/Critique: This is an example of an Informational book, since it is about animals who do live in the rain forests of the world. Carlin is deliberate in introducing the child to the plight of the rain forest and the animals who live there. The pictures are somewhat inviting, but the fun facts and text are level appropriate and appealing to the reader.… (lisätietoja)
