Accessible introduction to the artworks of Ancient Greece, from the Minoans until the end of the Classical Age. It's comprehensive, but not hugely detailed, and parts of it have been superseded by later scholarship (it was first published in the mid-eighties); I would also have liked it if a higher percentage of the generous illustrations had been higher resolution and in colour. It's still useful, though, particularly for those not familiar with the area/for younger readers.

My complaint with "Who Was.." is the poor reference on Edmund Ruffin. Nice picture and that about does it. And was looking for "Alfred Eugene Jackson" and found it in Generals and not in Who Was and also the question on "Mudwall" Jackson and that too was in "Generals"
Do agree that the pictures - mostly photos - in "Who Was Who" are really good.
