This one dives a little deeper than your typical chicklit, I liked it even if the tech was silly. "I'm numbers gal so i can rework my algorithm in less than 5 min" was a little eye roll inducing but it didn't get too annoying
This book was up and down for me. It took me a bit to get into it, and then I’d get into it then I’d think it was boring for a bit then I’d get back into it, etc. I think I was expecting a really steamy romance because that’s what I’m used to reading, but it was actually more depressing. But it was still a decent book and had a lot of sad moments and cute moments.
Gosh, this book took me by surprise. I would have to describe Husband Material as two books wrapped up in one. It jumps between chapters of HILARIOUS experiences of the MC, Charlotte, blind dating all of these awful guys (and oh man, the author has SUCH a funny voice), hanging out with her weird but hilarious roommate, and working at her job where she’s a total pro but has a lot of mean girls on scene. And oh, the author so had me. Then the other theme of the book is an absolute tearjerker, dealing with the MC’s unresolved grief five years after the death of her spouse.
It’s an interesting contrast because one minute you’re getting one thing… and the next, you’re getting the author’s other voice. The handling of grief had depth and was well done. As the urn of Charlotte’s spouse shows up back in her life, she has to suddenly deal with unresolved feelings from her husband’s death. Plus his best friend comes onto the scene. And there are… feelings. This had some unexpected twists at the end that really made things juicy! A super read!
