I cannot find the words to describe how rich and full of heart and love and beauty this book was. Drew is upfront from the start, this is a collection of stories, anecdotes and memories that you can pick up or put down any time you want to. This is just dipping in and out of different phases and moments in her life and I love that. She is such a wonderful storyteller, using her own insights and charming way to describe her adventures. Like how her beloved dog Flossy taught her how to love and look after someone, a gift that now lives on through her daughters. Or her friendships and special moments with longtime friends, how she taught herself to do things we take for granted, wild things that she did decades ago that still embarrass her every single day, her total love for and sisterhood with other women, her tremendous drive to be a better and worthy human. I wish I could thank her for giving us so much, this was a rad little book that I wish was 5 times as big because I devoured it in 1 day and didn't want it to end.

I love that Drew jumps through time while telling her story. I tend to do the same thing when telling a story and I am pretty sure I got this habit from my dad. I love that Drew focuses on the positive aspects of her story instead of dwelling on the negative. Drew could have easily told the emancipation story a different way by focusing on the negatives of having to learn how to do everything herself.

Drew Barrymore was born in Culver City, California, on 22 Feb 1975. She didn't get married and start having kids until she was about 35 years old. She is married to Will Kopelman and they have two girls, Olive and Frankie.

Drew's biography was not well thought out. It flip-flops from early years to later years and oddly, what she is currently doing in life, working on a makeup line (as of the publishing of this book in 2015), Wildflower, sold at Walmart, stuck in the middle of the book. My daughter also read this book, and we both feel like maybe she wasn't really all that honest in her book, keeping everything light, lovely, beautiful and perfect. In some chapters, she seems to ramble on and on in a philosophical way without really saying anything about her life, just expressing her feelings.

Her mother nor her father was there for her growing up. Her mother was a free-bird trying somewhat to make her mark in Hollywood, but mostly partying. Her father was out of the picture completely until later in life when he was dying. She took care of him until his death. Very commendable!

Drew doesn't really tell the nitty gritty of what she actually did to cause her mother to commit her to a psych home, but she did, at around age 12. She was in there for a year and a half. At age 14, she went to court to be removed from her mothers care and to become an adult under hardship, and to be able to do things as any 18 year old would be able to do. She was granted her rights and moved out on her own.

In the book, you don't get the feel that she went through any struggles at all living out on her own in Hollywood. Only that age 14 she still didn't know how to wash her own clothes and couldn't tell the difference between a washer and a dryer. She poured bleach directly onto her first load of clothes.

Now, her grandfather was the famous Hollywood actor, John Barrymore (1882-1942). So maybe she was a trustfund baby. She also could of had plenty of money coming in from the movie "E.T." filmed at age 6. Who knows? She didn't really let us in on that part of her life.

But, I still love Drew Barrymore, and I especially love Drew Barrymore in movies with Adam Sandler. Obviously, America also loves them together. About every ten years they get together and produce a blockbuster hit...my favorite? "50 First Dates", which was suppose to be a serious movie filmed in Seattle. But, once Adam Sandler and Drew got their hands on it (they each run their own small production companies), they literally turned it into an awesome playful movie filmed in Hawaii. I've watched the movie several times over the years. I even took note of the book she is always reading in the cafe in the movie and put it on my To Be Read list. On page 98 of her biography ( or memoir), she mentions why she chose the book "Still Life with Woodpecker" by Tom Robbins to read everyday in the movie. It is because that book does ask the question 'How do you make love stay?' (whether you have memory loss or not) then brings you on a wild ride just like the film.

It's interesting to note Drews circle of friends. She has strong lifelong friendship ties with Adam Sandler and Cameron Diaz. Also, Stephen Spielburg played a big part in her life. He took her under his wing when she was about 6 years old and was basically her godfather. She claimed he was the father she never had. He was funny and always had the kids laughing.

She developed a deep affinity to helping impoverished children in Africa after visiting, so much that when she returned to the states, still single, she did the research, made the plans and somehow provided the funds to build another schoolhouse for them, which they named after her. Very admirable! I truly believe she really has such a tender heart in real life.

Currently, in 2021, she's trying out hosting her first morning talk show called "Drew". I tried watching it a couple of times, but I can't stand it. She's over-the-top acting out, tryig to give the show energy, and it just comes off completely FAKE.

I recently started listening to audiobooks. The lighter the topics in the audiobook, the better, since I don't seem to be able to focus a lot while I am listening... So far I seem to focus in biographies of famous people. Why? No idea. In this case, I listened to the whole thing but it didn't do much for me.

I enjoyed reading about this famous woman's childhood, how she survived, thrived, and learned to keep positive and sane while growing up in Hollywood and how she has reinvented her life along the way. I find her charming and funny, and appreciate her honesty as much as she wants to reveal, and share. My interest stems partly from enjoying her movies, and her fascinating family, from my love of silent films.

It's a quick read. Drew is a fascinating woman and I recommend this book. I think everyone can learn something from someone who has lived so many lives and has such a positive attitude on life. She is truly an amazing person.

Beautiful, honest, and an inspiring look into such an amazing person's life. I hold so much respect for Drew Barrymore as an actress and woman and I know that her words will stick with me for a long time.

A teenager joins a roller derby team.

2.5/4 (Okay).

There are some story threads that feel incomplete or unnecessary. As a sports movie, it doesn't work at all (which isn't surprising since roller derby is a pretty much unfilmable game).

Now, I didn't realize she had written a book a long time ago, so when I read this I thought things were going to be mentioned that weren't. I was kind of disappointed, but oh well.

It was a nice book, some funny chapters some boring. The part I liked the most was about her charity work in Africa. I wish there was more about that.

Overall, it's alright.

This was a nice collection of stories about Drew Barrymore's life. I wouldn't call it a typical memoir, simply because it doesn't seem to flow from beginning of life to current state, like most memoirs I've read do. This jumps around all over the place. However, it's light and cheery, and it's very easy to follow. If you're a fan of Barrymore's at all, you'll appreciate this book. It's the quintessential Drew!

Little Girl Lost is a deep look into addiction by way of Drew Barrymore’s own experience with it. The book tells of Drew’s struggles with her family, sense of self and her use of drugs & alcohol making it a hard to put down book, due to wanting to hear more about her struggles. With a few odd sentences, Little Girl Lost is still a good book to read, especially for any fan of the actress.

I just love this book! This gives you the feeling that you personally know Drew. It is so authentic and real and down to earth....growing up and starting school in West Hollywood; her close relationship with Steven Spielberg, who was a father figure to Drew; the birth and joys of her Olive and Frankie, her two children. It is personal but she is so open about her life and her feelings, you feel as if your talking with a personal friend. She enjoys gardening and cooking and making mix tapes and her love of dogs.
I love Drew Barrymore, and this book is a very fun worthwhile peek into her life.
Highly Recommended

This is a light reading.
It's not supposed to be a biography but a collection of episodes of her life.
She is funny and insightful.
Of course, she has had a different life from most people and she isn’t a natural born writer. She writes as she talks. As you read it you can hear her voice pronouncing the words.
These episodes help you to understand her better.
Of course that they all have some pretty lining as she recalls them from her past to the happy place she is at this stage of her life.
I’m in the same place as her, and I didn’t have experiences similar to hers but still, I can relate to her stories. She is a very down to earth person and makes you understand what gives her life meaning.

Drew Barrymore is nothing short of a genius. In so many fronts. She is a wild, charismatic, courageous and boldly beautiful woman who knows who she is and stands for what she believes in! This book inspired me to be truly me and embrace and rise from my own story the brave, beautiful way she has embraced and risen from hers. Definitely a book I will be reading again! Highly recommend!

I loved this book! Reading it is like sitting down with a good friend over a cup of cocoa and listening to their stories. Drew writes with such emotion and honesty that you feel like she is in the room with you. This book made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me realize what a beautiful soul she is. This book is written as a collection of stories from her life. She shares her struggles, her joys, her friendships, and her passion-driven projects. I've always liked her work, but now that I've read her book, I know that she is truly as amazing as she appears to be on screen. If you're looking for a tragedy about someone who grew up in the horrific world of child stardom, don't pick up this book. If you're looking for a book which shows that no matter what the circumstances are, there is joy and hope and beauty in this life, then this is the book for you! What an inspiration!

Here's a thing I'm going to attempt to not do again: buy an audio book written and read by an author who is not a humorist or comedian. This is not a slam on Ms. Barrymore's writing skills; it’s just that I think that this wasn't in a format that was conducive to really getting a lot out of this totally fine selection of memoir-esque essays.

I appreciate that Ms. Barrymore didn't spend a lot of time in the book focused on the aspects of her childhood that those of us who remember it would consider 'salacious.' She mentions in passing the reason her mother sent her away, and expressed profound understanding of her mother's strengths and weaknesses in raising her, and she speaks of her years as a child actor, but that isn’t the primary focus of the book.

In fact, nothing in the book was really bad and nothing was really good. At times the audio version felt a bit like listening to a novel or a radio play, and that wasn't always a good thing. Some of the stories were very cute, and I get the sense that Ms. Barrymore is very self-aware. Yes, she does come across as a bit of a hippie, and there's a whole lot of sincerity, but there's also a bit more ... wit (that seems mean)? Sarcasm? I'm not sure. But more of whatever that is than I was expecting. It's not just loads of flower language and talk of the healing power of crystals.

I genuinely feel that I would have enjoyed the book much more if I had read it and not listened to it. Reading it would allow me to absorb each essay and hopefully get more out of it than the audio version. Yes, it was at times funny to hear the voices (and screams) punctuating some of her stories, but it didn't have enough to really keep me engaged. So, audio book: 2 stars. But I'm betting that the visual version would get at least three.

This book by Drew Barrymore was very inspiring and it really made me reflect on my own life and my personal experiences. This great autobiography named Wildflower is a story about an actress and her tough, unforgettable, amazing and memorable experiences and journeys. The author Drew Barrymore explains her adventures and ups and downs through the life of an actress, starting a production, a cosmetics company, and wine. I really enjoyed how she expressed her emotions and the way she worded things in the book, it was very amusing to me. She discussed how certain events and people shaped her into the woman she is today. Drew went into depth of how much her close friends and family meant to her and what a big impact they had on her. She had role models and people she looked up to very much. Drew did not have what you would call a normal childhood. Her parents were divorced, she barely saw her dad and her mother was working two jobs to support them. She lived in southern California and she and her mother lived in a tiny duplex. Drew was emancipated at the age of 14. She moved into her own apartment due to her mother not being home very much and not being able to support her. This book really inspired me because it shows how Drew overcame all her obstacles and when I read that it made me feel like no matter what challenges I have, I will always be able to get past them. In this autobiography, I was able to spot the clear transition from when Drew was a reckless, energetic teenager to a mature, loving mother and wife. She is busy with work and making movies but she is far more dedicated to her two daughters Olive and Frankie. Overall, I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an interesting but fun read. Like I mentioned before, it is inspirational and it makes you reflect on certain aspects of life. It was definitely worth taking the time to read and I'm glad I had the chance to.
