This is a marvellous duo of stories by Debbie Macomber, all about the spirit of Christmas! Call Me Mrs. Miracle is by far my favourite of the two, and I really want to read the rest of that series because it's just so cute! Who doesn't love a sweet tale about two people falling in love and a child getting everything they want for Christmas? All with a secret angel? What a gem! The Christmas Basket didn't wow me as much, and I felt it dragging on. It kind of bored me even though it was also well written and a cute romance collection. Overall, great book! Three out of five stars. Although part of a series there is nothing that really relates to the others other than a mention of her friends. Very clean love story. Characters always wondering why Mrs. Miracle knows things that were never told to her and was able to avoid giving an answer when questioned. Just a feel good type of story. Enjoyed the way Mrs. Miracle set up the characters to get to know each other. Liked the comment by Gabe that he has to put the seat down now that he lives with his aunt. Good relationships between fathers and sons. The film adaptation of this story is one of my Christmas 24 favourites, so I had to try the original novel! At first, I thought the book read like a novelisation of the film, and not the other way round - nothing much was added, and the writing was a bit basic (also who puts Cup a Soups in the microwave?) But then my obsession took over, and I found myself reading into the night - and I never do that! (I don't have the stamina!) I just love the twee Christmas sentiment of the father and son who need to learn to celebrate the festive season again, and the little boy whose father who is stationed in Afghanistan. I have to say, though, that the pacing of the film is better - I like how Finley's take a stand against the trending toy robot and go 'back to basics' instead, and how the film ends with the Christmas party. Still a perfect Christmas read, however! I was a little disappointed to find that Call Me Mrs Miracle is only half the book. The second story is called 'The Christmas Basket', and although entertaining - about an American Mapp and Lucia pair of battleaxes, whose twenty year feud threatens to ruin their children's happiness and the local charity drive - I really wanted more Mrs Miracle. Onto book three! ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

Emily Merkle is mistakenly called Emily Miracle, and takes on the name Mrs. Miracle. She's an older woman who does wondrous work at the toy store she got hired at. Jake is her boss, and he's ordered what seems like WAY too many toy robots that his father, the owner, is not too pleased about. He meets Holly Larson, a woman taking care of her nephew since his Mother has passed and his Father (her brother) is in Afghanistan. Gabe, her adorable nephew, really wants one of those robots. She might be in luck, since her and Jake meet and he's more than happy to set one aside for her. Will there be a Christmas miracle?
This book is so utterly cute! It's the perfect book to curl up with a blanket and some tea and just sink into. It's full of Christmas spirit and packed tight full of ooey gooey romance. It is predictable, especially since this turned into a Hallmark movie, but it's everything I wanted and more in a Christmas romance book. It's sugary sweet and just fun.
Four out of five stars. ( )
