A plague of vampires and werewolves falls on Victorian England in the late 1800's, but there's nothing supernatural about these creatures. They're genetically engineered monsters from the future, dropped into the past as a terrorist tactic in the Time Wars.To Scotland Yard, it's a mystery more baffling than any ever faced by Sherlock Holmes, so they turn to his creator for assistance. And as the foggy streets of London become a killing ground, the Time Commandos join forces with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and H.G. High adventure, thrills, and chills involving horror and sci-fi. Time travel to Victorian London, chasing an interdimensional, international, cross-time madman who wants to either mess up the timeline beyond repair or end it, altogether... whichever works.

A geneticist from the far future has continued his mad plans (and tickled his psychotic sense of humour) by creating non-supernatural, but super-powered versions of Dracula and the Wolf Man, then set them loose in 1890s London. And it's up to the Time Commandos to stop them and him.

Getting in the way are Bram Stoker, H.G. Wells, Arthur Conan Doyle, Oscar Wilde, a time-traveling Dr. Moreau and a very talented Scotland Yard detective who is always just one step behind the truth.

Great fun!

I love this series. ( )

Short book that took a long time to get through (again). I read the entire series years ago, and having read so much since then, have forgotten details that generate an "Oh yeah." when I come across them (as in remembering the set up for the last four.)

I thought this a bit forced and less enjoyable than the predecessors. ( )

Title: The Dracula Caper Series: Time Wars Author: Simon Hawke Rating: 1/2 of 5 Stars Genre: SFF Pages: DNF Format: Kindle digital editions Synopsis: The Multiverse continues the war. Now Drakov, the crazy russian, has introduced genetic creatures, namely were-wolves and vampires, into "our" timeline in London in an effort to destabilize our timeline and destroy us. My Thoughts: This book is where I stop reading this series. It wasn't that the plot was any cheesier than previous books. It wasn't that the characters were suddenly stiffer than cardboard, because they've always been standup cutouts. Nope, I quit because this was more than half exposition about Time War physics and other such immaterial crap. This was the 8th book in the series. I don't need the whole primer for the Time Wars, an exposition about why things are so bad and history of each character and why they are the way they are. It frustrated me so much that I just quit, the book and the series. Good riddance! " ( )

This is my favourite of the Time wars series yet. I love the rich and wonderful characterisations of Arthur Conan Doyle, Bram Stoker, "Bertie" Wells and Oscar Wilde. I have no idea how accurate Hawke's portrayals are, but they are always wonderful to read.

The surprising thing to realise is how little time is given to any of the central characters in this book - the "supporting cast", including both the Victorian authors and supporting time commandos, effectively steal the show. But, apart from the fact that I would have liked the opportunity to get to know and hopefully like Stieger more, I didn't miss the "main" characters at all. I was having far too much fun with Conan Doyle and the fictional Inspector Grayson. Can't wait to see how the series develops. ( )

The setting is London, 1894. Scotland Yard is puzzled by a series of mysterious murders, committed by a murderer or murderers of great strength and brutality. Unfortunately, in this world, Shelock Holmes is a fictional character, unable to help them crack the case. His creator, Arthur Conan Doyle, however, has similar powers of observation and deduction and attempts to help unravel the mystery. No, this isn't an untold tale from our history. It's book eight of the Time Wars series. In this volume we see more fantastic genetically engineered creatures, of similar origin to the ones that appeared in The Argonaut Affair. This time the time commandos are out in force--10 soldiers in all--to try to stop the mastermind of this scheme, and if that wasn't enough, they wind up getting an assist from Dr. Doyle, Bram Stoker and H. G. Wells. Ironically enough, though I claim to appreciate Mr. Hawke's willingness to change the status quo, I found myself wishing he would have given more time to the returning characters. Maybe that's why I consider this book to be merely waiting room material. Maybe he just tried to pack too much into a 212 page story: his ongoing time wars story line, a Holmsian mystery, an homage to Dracula, an homage to H.G. Wells and general comments on Victorian London all mixed together. Or maybe Mr. Hawke's attempt to mix Victorian characters into a new story pales in comparison to Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. (the comic book, not the movie) Whatever it's problems, this time I think Mr. Hawke missed the mark. He shouldn't have raised my expectations so high.
