These books are poorly written and ridiculous. There are much better series for 1st and 2nd graders to read. And if you read them out loud they are agony. Remember you shouldn't force children to read anything you wouldn't like and these are drivel. I try to steer customers away from them at the bookstore where I work. Try Magic Tree House or Geronimo Stilton, Cam Jansen or Junie B. Jones instead. ( )

Journey to the Volcano Palace begins with Eric having a nightmare about a place called Droon and a villanous sorcerer named Sparr. He wakes up and tells his friends Julie and Neal who find with him a portal through Eric's basement that leads them to this magical land. They have many adventures in Droon and meet many new friends including a princess name Keeah and a wizard named Galen. Together they venture to find Sparr who has possession over a glove with a magical gem on it in his volcano palace. This early chapter book is science fiction.

The three main characters, of which Neil is my least favorite, are all fairly well represented in this story. The new land that they entered via portal was dangerous and reasonably suspenseful. An okay second story. Good for the right audience. Even though I wasn't the right audience, it was reasonably entertaining. ( )

The nasty Lord Sparr has stolen a magic jewel from Eric, Julie, and Neal's friend Princess Keeah. The jewel is hidden in Lord Sparr's secret palace inside a volcanoe. Can they get it?
