This didn't feel like the 10th doctor. It would have worked better as a 9th doctor book, really. Overall, just fair. ( )

This is a deliciously creepy Doctor Who audiobook adventure. The Doctor and Rose Tyler arrive at a village on the Welsh coast just after a fisherman is killed by a creature from the sea. Children in the village are plagued by nightmares, and monsters roam at night. It isn't safe to go out after dark. The villagers blame a local old man for the goings on, but the Doctor wants to know how the old lighthouse, the monsters that roam around after dark and strange figures seen in the priory figure in to the problem. When he uncovers a plan to resurrect an alien being, the Doctor knows everyone involved is in serious danger, especially the children.

This was an exciting and seriously creepy story! Anthony Head narrates. He reads at an even pace and did an excellent job. Just over 2 hours long, this audiobook is an easy listening length and, as with all BBC Audio presentations, the production value is top notch.

I listened to this story while reorganizing my bookshelves, dusting and moving furniture. It was great company and made the time pass quickly. :)

I'm really enjoying these Doctor Who audiobooks from BBC Audio. I will definitely be listening to more! I'm hooked!! It's a great way to fill in time until the TV series starts up again. :)

I really enjoyed this book as another extra story including the 10th Doctor and Rose, probably my favourite couple from Doctor Who. I really loved the idea of this novel and found it quite spooky with some scenes actually being a bit scary.

Plot: 4/5

I really enjoyed the plot in this novel, it was a different idea but one I would quite liked to have seen made into an episode on the tv. In this novel, the Doctor and Rose come face to face with a monster who is controlling the children's dreams. I found this idea quite intriguing and I liked how the monsters relied on something so normal as children's dreams and their imaginations. I also enjoyed the twist at the end, when the aliens plan didn't work quite as they wanted and the importance of the patients in the beds.

Characters: 4/5

The Doctor is very well written in this novel, he is exactly as he is in the tv series. Rose is also very similar to herself on the tv. The relationship between these two characters is great too, with the Doctor knowing just how much he needs Rose and showing just what a good team these two make when they work together.

The aliens in this novel are just as interesting but also scary as you would expect from Doctor Who. I also feel like these monsters had a very original plan to rule and this was interesting to read about.

Setting: 4/5

This novel is set in a rural Welsh village on the coast and I think this added a lot to the novel. The village was described very well in the dark and this definitely added to the eerieness of the whole book. This setting also allowed for running through woods, creepy lighthouse action and underground tunnels.

Overall: 4/5

I really enjoyed this book and it is probably one of the best Doctor Who novels I have read. I thought this was a really original and unique idea for a Doctor Who adventure. If you like Doctor Who I would really recommend this book.

It's an entertaining read. The Doctor is clever, the monsters are nicely creepy, and the original characters have *character,* which is very nice - even the children, I thought, were also realistically written, being neither mini-adults nor horribly obnoxious, as is sometimes prone to happen. The end, though a bit predictable, was fun to read. ( )

Fans of Doctor Who will have already encountered each story element of this book from previous stories, both in the new series and in the old. That said, I like these things and haven't encountered them in a couple of years - so, it's all good.

A plenitude of monsters, abandoned spooky places, nutters with driftwood collections (and guard ducks), and a culmination of events that could lead to the end of life on Earth as we know it.

You can also make a drinking game out of it - taking a drink every time you read the word "cables", and make it a double each time you read "thick cables". Mike Tucker is a visual thinker, and it comes across with plenty of set dressing (the man loves him some cables).

The dialog and characterization of The Doctor and Rose were well done, and welcome lite fare. Not too many surprises in here, a story built of cliches, but still a fun time that I am happy to have enjoyed. ( )
