This book, also by Jim Murphy, is the tale of a young boy named Joseph Plumb Martin, who was born in the American colonies and fought in the Revolution as a soldier for most of his teenage life. This book is very detailed about the life of a Revolutionary soldier, including the hardships during training and during the worst parts of the war. I personally liked this book, but it may be hard for younger students to understand. Some of the language is taken from Joseph's journal, which is old English style. It does give great insight into life during the Revolutionary War, but it's difficult to follow at times. It's still a good story to read to gain more perspective on this topic. This pictures are great and there are a lot of sources, both from the text and from the pictures. Jim Murphy also provides a timeline in this book as well, which I liked.
