This is the end of one of the arcs of the larger series (they're not exactly sequential) and this is also the point where I usually stop reading. Still fun stuff here, but the thrill wears off after a while, and the main protagonist has long since ceased to be in any way relatable - so we're stuck with swapping perspectives between various front-liners, which is engaging enough but doesn't really have any staying power. ( ) The final book in the Earth based Posleen war series. This should really have been part of the previous book (When the Devil Dances), but that would have made it a 1,100 page book. I've seen some complaints that these two books needed editing, but I feel that's not totally fair. They didn't feel padded, and I'm not sure what' you'd leave out of them. Sure, there are characters who are introduced in reasonable detail in order to then die, but isn't war like that? I like that you couldn't really guarantee that all the good guys would survive for once. The remainder of the books in this universe are share cropped. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I guess we'll have to wait and see. http://www.stillhq.com/book/John_Ringo/Hells_Faire.html Even the author admits this book is the 2nd half of the previous book. It doesn't feel incomplete, but it does start right in the middle of a scene, so read the previous book before you read this one! Once again the O'Neals have to do their best to save the USA, and the world from the Posleen, but it is becoming increasingly obvious that the humans were setup. A continuation of his 'infantry vs everyone' series. Great military sci-fi, even if it is a tiny bit contrived. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
Kuuluu näihin sarjoihinLegacy of the Aldenata (Book 4)
With the defenses of the Southern Appalachians sundered, the only thing standing between the ravening Posleen hordes and the soft interior of the Cumberland Plateau are the veterans of 555th Mobile Infantry. Dropped into Rabun Pass, with a couple of million Posleen behind them and fourteen million to the front, the only question is which will run out first: power, bullets or bodies. But they have a hole card: far to the north the shattered SheVa Nine is undergoing a facelift. Rising from its smoking ashes is a new weapon of war, armed with the most advanced weaponry Terra has ever produced, capable of facing both the Posleen hordes and their redoubtable space-cruisers. Capable of dealing out hell as only SheVa Nine can. If Mike O'Neal and the other members of the 555th are going to survive, it will come down to how much Posleen butt Bun-bun can kick. Prepare to eat antimatter, Posleen-boy. Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
