Jack and his friends/colleagues, Gwen Cooper and Ianto Jones, are investigating a strange energy field in Dehli, India. Very soon they're trying to evacuate some workers directly in its path. I thought their method a good one, but it fails. Have those poor souls been transported to some place on Earth inhospitable to human life such as an ocean, or disintegrated outright? Could there be some hope of rescue, say they were sent to some other time, dimension, or planet? We must wait and listen.
The trail leads to an old mansion that used to be the India branch of Torchwood until Jack took away its alien artifacts and shut it down back in the 'Roaring Twenties' [1920s]. The girlfriend he deserted, the Duchess, is still there. She hasn't aged a day any more than Jack has!
The Duchess is every bit the fossil in her thinking as if she were one of the old British officers who also live in the club. Her blathering about the Golden Age of the British Empire is nauseous. It wasn't a golden age for every member of the empire: does she consider that? (HA!) Also, could she be harboring thoughts of revenge on Jack?
The Duchess does have a plan. If she had run a cost/benefit analysis of that plan, I'm sure I'd want to line my catbox with it.
Of course our Torchwood heroes will save the day, but the fun is finding out how they'll manage it. ( )
