“Kieli” by Yukako Kabeil and illustrated by Shiori Teshirogi. This manga is written about a young teen girl who sees ghosts and or dead people. She lives on a planet ruled and controlled by the church. Eighty seven years ago there was a huge war to save the planets resources. During that war a type of human was made. A creature made from the crystallization of technology and an ultra pure energy. They were used as a weapon because of their ability to not die and were called the undead. After the war ended the church soldiers set out to destroy all the undead as they were not a creation of god. Kieli is now fourteen years old alone without any living relatives. She meets Harvey and he is an undead. He is the first person Kieli has ever met that can also see ghosts. This new friendship is about to change Kieli’s world and her perception of life as she knows it.

This Manga is about your typical average fourteen year old girl other then she can see ghost that is. She acts and reacts as any other fourteen year old girl would, curious to everything around her. This is a true manga starting with the back page and working your way to the front. The illustrations are remarkable working in sync with the text making it easier for the reader to follow and understand the story. The recommended reading age is 14 and up. This is appropriate as the illustrations are dark and are very graphic. Some detail may be frightening for a younger reader. ( )
