Book 53 in the Hank the Cowdog series is all about Drover's life before he came to the ranch. The entire thing is written from his POV (with the exception of the short 2 page introduction by Hank). Drover starts his autobiography off when he is born, talks briefly on his puppyhood, and works up to the events that caused him to end up on the ranch.
My only complaints are that there's not enough "puppyhood" tales and that we never actually get to "see" Drover MEET Hank. We read how he meets Sally May and Loper, but that's it. I would've liked knowing what their first impressions are of each other.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed "Drover's Secret Life". It was nice to get in an inside look at our stubby-tailed friend. (
