A good solid story (

Elene Fitzhugh is notorious for having killed her husband on her wedding day but now King Edward has decreed that one of the de Burgh's will take her to wife and secure her lands. She wants none of this as all she knows of family is brutality and hardship. She expects that Geoffrey is going to treat her with brutality and force her to bear children until she dies. However he is determined to win her respect if not her love, but can she trust him, and can he trust her not to slip a knife between his ribs. Meanwhile there are forces at work to destroy them both.
A fun read, fairly decent in the descriptions and interesting in the characters. (
