Cathrine who is 21 and from a small bush town in Australia, is given a birthday gift to travel to London. She meets Bradley a U S navel officer and falls in love. They hook up in his new posting in Honolulu and get married. This is a coming of age book but the person coming of age is in her 20's during a time of great social change. While parts of the story are predictable, the storytelling is so good, that this as well as the American cliches and stereotypes can be overlooked.
