A counting book, an animal book, a bilingual book (the children have Swahili names, each number is written in Swahili, and the Swahili words for each animal are included); for a book that's relatively simple on its face, We All Went On Safari is quite rich. Each page is bordered with a line of colored dots (beads?) as a group of children of various ages with one guardian see different kinds of animals and count them. Back matter includes "Animals of Tanzania," "The Masai People," "Swahili Names," "Facts About Tanzania," a map, and "Counting in Swahili."

This book has large illustrations and it takes us all on a Safari in Africa. The readers learn about the different African animals that live in the grasslands of Tanzania. Not only does the text rhyme, we all learn how to count in Swahili. On the safari children and adults come across three/tatu giraffes grazing and six/sita woolly wildebeests.
