I learned that this is the oldest American children's picture book still in print. It is an enjoyable read with great illustrations. This book has won a Newbery Award. It has an interesting plot wherein an old man wants to bring his wife the most beautiful cat but cannot decide. The cats follow him home and fight each other in jealous rages. One cat survives and becomes their pet. ( )

This is a cute little picture book I remembered vaguely from my childhood. It seems like it’d be fun to read aloud, and I understand why it has withstood the years. I didn’t quite remember how the man got rid of his millions and billions and trillions of cats -which struck me as a little dark… but I imagine I’m overthinking the plot a wee bit. I liked it. ( )
