One of my all time favorite books of poetry. ( ) For me, poetry is like a kind of telepathy where the sender and recipient are both essential. The sender transmits the words, and the receiver, by being uniquely placed in the world and in time, completes their ever-changing meaning. Similar to other writings, but more so, poetry is like an ocean. The poems of celebrated poet Mary Oliver are a journey across this limitless ocean. Modern poetry (read: anything post-Donne) generally doesn't appeal to me, with a very few exceptions. I'd heard such wonderful things about Oliver's work, though, that I thought I'd better give her a try, but I'm afraid she doesn't quite make it into those very few exceptions for me. Her style didn't grab me, and most of her poems seem to be about nature and Being Outdoors, which just isn't a writing subject that tends to interest me. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
