Every gardener needs to know their Latin names. Ein liebevoll gemachtes Buch mit offenem, gut lesbarem Layout inkl. wunderschönen Pflanzenillustrationen. Wir machen eine Reise durch: Präfixe, Suffixe, Farben, Gebirge, Markierungen, Form, Wald, Texturen, Größe, Erscheinungsbild, Duft, Geschmack, blütezeit, offene Landschaft, Ähnlichkeiten, Himmelsrichtungen, Orte, Kontinente, Länder, Feuchtland, Orte, Provinzen, klassische Namen, Sortennamen... und zwar immer im Hinblick darauf, wie diese Charakteristika in die Pflanzennamen einfließen.

Die meisten Präfixe (also erste Bestandteile eines Doppelwortes) sind Adjektive oder Adverben und beziehen sich auf die Größe oder geografische Herkunft einer Pflanze. Beispiel: actino (strahlenförmig), aniso (ungleich) oder parvi (klein). Die allgemeine Erscheinung einer Pflanze kennen wir z.B. von der Bezeichnung vulgare (gewöhnlich). Sie wurde meist an die Pflanze einer Gatttung vergeben, die zum Zeitpunkt der Namensgebung am bekanntesten war.

Eine spannende, kurze Einführung zum jeweiligen Kapitel und dann eine Liste inkl. Übersetzung der bekanntesten Namen aus dem jeweiligen Bereich, besonders die Vielfalt der Farbausprägungen hat mich beeindruckt (lactescens = ins milchig weiße gehend). Hochinformativ, spannend und mit einer Vielzahl neuer Einsichten, Pflanze entstehen mit diesem Buch nochmals neu, ihre Vielfalt ist wahrlich beeindruckend. (
