The Littlest Sled Dog is a beautiful story about a young dog who wants to be a sled dog when he grows up. The puppy dreams about becoming a sled dog very night and when he gets the chance to live in Nunavut, the little Cairn’s dream seems closer than ever. This well done tale of a dog that never gives up takes us through his journey to become a sled dog, but when he finally meets one of these harden sled dogs his mood changes. He discovers as he lies on the couch beside his human that his life is better than the sled dogs. Michael brings this story alive with his musical language and descriptive verses. The illustrations are beautifully done with a certain northern feel. With colorful and interesting illustrations everyone can enjoy this pictures book. This book has won the Canadian Children’s Book Center Best Book award in 2010 and in the Alcuin Design Award winner in 2009. näyttää 2/2 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

Introductory text regarding different cultures in North America. Not a particularly deep story and it is fairly superficial, but can be a good text to introduce a way of life that is different that what we experience in Chicago. Text does touch on the theme of being little, and wishing that you were bigger and stronger like others, but the twist at the end was a bit of a let down. Children who like animal stories would mostly likely enjoy engaging with this text.
