This was a fantastic audiobook. It kept me hooked and I loved the full cast of voice actors. I had never seen the movie before so I went into this blind and I loved it. I loved how Max Brooks thought through so many different scenarios and outcomes and I loved that he "interviewed" people all over the world to really get the scope of the zombie apocalypse. If you love zombie books and movies then this will not disappoint - I wish the book were longer - I feel like there were so many different perspectives he could have included! I would definitely recommend the audiobook version - I feel that since this was an oral history - that it was the best way to read it - the voice actors really were superb too! ( ![]() For some reason, I have been putting off reading this book. My bad! I should have know when I read a review that compared the book as "Mad Max meets The Hot Zone" that this was the book for me. I couldn't put this book down once I finally picked it up. The story of World War Z is told after the war is over. Or, at least the start of the war. Survivors, including military personnel, politicians, and regular people all over the world recount how they survived while the world was falling apart. Told in interview format, the eclectic selection of individuals telling their own stories creates a worldwide picture of what happened during the war against Z. Ultimately, excellent writing, eclectic characters, and a worldwide scope make this book a must read for almost anyone. Especially those who think "Mad Max meets The Hot Zone" is a great description. Very detailed and well thought out. Yes, it's a zombie book but it's also about existing politics and real problems that could happen if a massive plague hit the population. This is not written in the typical novel form. Rather it is cast as a series of interviews with survivors of the world-wide war against zombies. Each story is unrelated, yet builds on the others. As a result, the whole is more than the sum of the parts. Each vignette captures and comments on our own world, yet remains a bit aloof, since it is set in a fictional present. I found it compelling. Ho hum. Not that great. Disappointing. One of those cases where the movie is much better than the book. Supposed to be a series of interviews told by many participants in the zeke war. Yet there is only one voice. All the narrators speak with exactly the same language. PalkinnotDistinctionsNotable Lists
An account of the decade-long conflict between humankind and hordes of the predatory undead is told from the perspective of dozens of survivors who describe in their own words the epic human battle for survival. Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
