Nina is going to be a very interesting character even beyond being the twin sister. I like the doctor a lot more, too, and understand why he's willing to give up his practice so easily to right the original wrong he had done by saving the boy. It's creepy and fascinating, now. I'm eating out of the comic's hand. It's so easy to see how everything is going to turn to crap for these poor characters. Still going well for me. Tenma is a good man on the run, and Nina is a kick-butt young woman who finds out she's linked to a killer. Why did Johan let her shoot him in the head? Will Inspector Lunge ever realize the truth about Tenma? At this point, Tenma can't trust anyone. Even the police have shown that they can be bought by Johan. (Original review posted on A Library Girl's Familiar Diversions.) Dr. Tenma's search for Johan leads him to find Johan's sister, Anna, who was adopted by a kindly family. Nina, as the girl is now called, has no memory of her parent's murder or her brother. However, on her 20th birthday, Johan contacts her, leading her to remember her parents murder. This book slows down the pace from volume 1 considerably, and that was not what you'd call a blistering read. I read this book a while ago, and while trying to write the description of it, had a hard time remembering what happened. The book is well done, although I feel the German setting detracts from the tale, but it is slow, and not entirely memorable. Not for the casual manga fan. Brilliant doctor Kenzo Tenma risks his reputation and promising career to save the life of a critically wounded young boy. Unbeknownst to him, this child is destined for a terrible fate. Conspiracies, serial murders, and a scathing depiction of the underbelly of hospital politics are all masterfully woven together in this compelling manga thriller. - Dr. Tenma is a good person. He saves lives and makes people happy. He struggles to kill, but feels obligated to kill the "Monster" he had accidentally saved. He is forced to become an antihero. Sometimes, the world will make you into a bad person. ( )
