Written two years before being placed in Bedford Prison, John Bunyan's A Few Sighs From Hell, or The Groans of a Damned Soul (1658) explicates Luke 16, the story of the rich man and the beggar. The rich man neglected his salvation, never sought solace in Scripture, and disobeyed the gospel. Now crying for a drop of water, he wants to send the beggar to warn his relatives of the life after death. Attacking professional clergy and the rich who promote carnality, Bunyan describes hell in vivid detail and warns sinners to mend their ways. A good warning word to sinners, both old and young, to take into consideration betimes, and to seek, by faith in Jesus Christ, to avoid, lest they come into the same Place of Torment wherein is discovered the lamentable state of the damned; their cries, their desires in their distresses, with the determination of God upon them. "The wicked shall be tuned into Hell, and all the nations that forget God." Psalm 9:17 "And whoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Revelation 20:15 Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
