This book tells the story of Martin Luther King Jr. and where all of the great things he did started and ended. The book starts off with a sad moment in childhood when he wasn't allowed to play with his friends across the street because he was African-American. He was inspired by his father to become a minister of his church, he said he wanted to be a good preacher, one that actually gave a message and inspired people instead of standing up there on the altar and screaming the same message everytime. And this is when the incident with Rosa Parks happened that sparked the rise of African-American civil rights. Martin Luther King Jr. was the leader and the inspiration of many events such as the March on Washington, the March to Selma, and the Bus Boycotts and many, many sit-ins. Martin Luther King may have died but his message is still passed on through generations and is still believed in 50 years later.

This book although it was short gave a lot of informing information about the life of Dr. King. I believe that his biography and his story was a great window into lives of African American citizens in the past. This shows that if one person has an idea, it could spread like wildfire amongst others and spark a revolution or even a change in history and time. Dr. King has many morals and inspiring lessons but his main lesson in this story was "It is always the right time to do what is right." He believed that anyone could make a difference and that anyone could change the world, no matter how old or young you are. He also believed that if it was the right choice you shouldn't stand by and wait for your friends to back you up or wait for permission, if it will fix things and make a difference and it is good for the people and the nation and YOU then you should do it. Martin Luther King believed everyone mattered and everyone was equal and had the same opportunities, and I believe him too. ( )

An inspiring portrait of a man who changed the course of American history . . . Well documented, clearly written and illustrated with captivating photos.--Kirkus Review. When Martin Luther King grew up in the South, black people were treated very badly. They had to go to separate schools. They could only ride in the back of the bus. In many places, they were not allowed to vote.Even as a young boy, Martin knew this was wrong. And when he grew up, he did something about it. He made speeches. He led marches. He made everyone think about what was fair.

1. Main character
Martin Luther King

2. Write the summary of the book.

"Because you're coloured and we're white," the boy's mother answered. Then she shut the door. It was the first time when six-year-old Martin was discriminated. At that time, black people were treated badly in the South.
All through his life, he lead many black people to get the equality. Although there are still some white people who tend to discriminate against black people, he had a way of giving people the feeling that they could be bigger and stronger, more courageous and loving than they thought they could be.

3. Write your feelings about the book in details.

Martin knew how dangerous his work was. He began to talk more and more about dying. "If anything happens to me, you must be prepared to continue," he told his SCLC staff(See p 118).

He was so brave that he continued marching, no matter how dangerous it is for him. He was great.

4. Write the words, phrases or sentences that impressed you most in the book and explain why they impressed you. Or you could write your questions about the book.

Suddenly all kinds of awards and honors began to pour in.......He was asked to speak at the meeting and all across the country(See p 68).

After the miracle of Montgomery, he really got the power to move many people. If it were not for one woman's behavior, they couldn't have been active so much against white. ( )
