I purchased this at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse after hearing about Crane's adventure in the sinking of the Commodore and open boat trip to the Florida coast. The short story The Open Boat is his fictional account of the experience. The stories, The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky and The Blue Hotel are based on his experiences out west. The first story he published, Maggie: a Girl of the Streets is about poor Irish immigrants in New York and Crane captures the poverty and grime of that existence. ( ![]() These stories were much better than I expected. What a pity that literature lost Stephen Crane at such a young age. I'm sure we would have got some classic stuff from him had he lived longer. näyttää 2/2 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

The Open Boat, one of the seventeen stories featured in this volume is based on Crane's experience of surviving a shipwreck off the coast of Florida earlier that year while travelling to Cuba to work as a newspaper correspondent. Crane was stranded at sea for thirty hours when his ship, the SS Commodore, sank after hitting a sandbar. No library descriptions found. |
