An important story to tell, but the poor lettering was distracting and the story a bit garbled. I think the book is intended for a younger audience but there is very little exposition or explanation to actually teach readers new to the subject about the historical period. ( ) 3.5P-A gentle and touching version of the inevitable decision that many German Jews had to make prior to WW-II: to send their children to safety abroad. The two main characters are Marianne and her mother, and they form a very strong bond. Marianne's father appears briefly; he is "underground", another source of constant stress for both Marianne and her mother. Marianne also has several humiliating encounters with Aryans as a Jew in Berlin; however, her negative experiences are countered by a friendship she develops with a German boy who ultimately reassures her he is "not like the others". A great read to gently introduce younger readers to the plight of the Jews during WW-II, and an excellent prelude to the much more emotionally challenging "Diary of Anne Frank". näyttää 2/2 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
Mukaelma tästä teoksesta:
A heartbreaking story of loss and love. As autumn turns toward winter in 1938 Berlin, life for Marianne Kohn, a young Jewish girl, begins to crumble. First there was the burning of the neighbourhood shops. Then her father, a mild-mannered bookseller, must leave the family and go into hiding. No longer allowed to go to school or even sit in a café, Marianne’s only comfort is her beloved mother. Things are bad, but could they get even worse? Based on true events, this fictional account of hatred and racism speaks volumes about both history and human nature. Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
