This is the first book I have read on the subject of Japan planning for the invasion of Hawaii after December, 7, 1941. The author, who is American, is fluent in Japanese. Consequently, he was able to review Japanese original documents, publications, and meeting notes. Very interesting, Particularly the contention between the Imperial Army and Navy regarding strategy and resousces; probably not unusual for military branches. The planning was an on again, off again process. Until the battle of Midway. Worth reading for those WWII Pacific buffs and anyone intested in the workings of Imperial Japan in WWII. "This lively, provocative study challenges the widely held belief that the Japanese did not intend to invade the Hawaiian Islands." --Choice "A disquieting book, which shatters several historical illusions that have almost come to be accepted as facts. It will remind historians how complex and ambiguous history really is." --American Historical Review Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
