I went into this comics collection knowing that the origin story here for Green Arrow would be completely unrelated to the origin story in the TV show Arrow (what I love), so it's not that I was disappointed that *this* Oliver Queen/GA is not *that* Oliver Queen/GA but I was disappointed in this story in comparison to that one. The story just seems flat (and a little rushed?)--I don't quite buy the transformation Oliver has to undergo. *shrug* Comics aren't wholly my bag, so this reaction might be partly because the format doesn't completely resonate with me. Some of the art, however, is absolutely stunning. ( ![]() I wasn't really impressed by this, and found it forgettable. The story moves along too quickly without pausing for nuance or subtlety; it almost seems like an abbreviated adaptation of a better draft. "Year One"? There's no way this tale gives the reader the impression that it's happening over the course of a year. "Green Arrow: Month One" would be a better title. There isn't much script per page, making this volume something that could easily be read within an hour. I'll give it two stars because the art is okay. I like the heroes like Batman/Hawkeye/Black Widow who are not mutants or aliens, just a preference. And I *really* like Jock's art. Good story line, eye candy - Diggle has left DC, so no more of this? Sad. I liked the story but what I really liked was the artwork, so much so that I gave it an extra star. "Oliver Queen is a frivolous playboy with little care for anyone or anything -- apparently even himself. But when he's double-crossed and marooned on a jungle island, he finds that he does care about something: justice! armed with nothing more than a makeshift bow and arrows, Queen struggles to survive in his new, unforgiving environment -- all while battling the violent drug runners who are responsible for his abandonment"--P.
