Not bad for light reading. ( ) I finished this, but I can't say I liked it. The author lost me in the first chapter. The heroine is a virgin, but has earth-shattering, multiple orgasms on her wedding night? With a man she hates? Come on. I know romances aren't based in reality, but how far-fetched can you get? As others have said, Jess is a pushover and Gabe is utterly unlikeable. I could not make myself believe that these two were falling in love. The premise of the story had much promise, but author all together failed to carry through. Opening Sentence: '…The last person Jess Randall expected to see as she walked out of the gate at Christchurch International Airport, was the man she was going to marry..." A lovely, but average, bit of fluff reading, read in one sitting. When Jess's father died she was broke and about to be evicted from her property, the man she loved didn't come to her rescue, instead he announced his engagement to another woman. Her rich neigbour, Gabe, said he would buy her ranch, as long as she married him and gave him an heir. Broken-hearted, Jess agrees, but first she wants to pursue her dream of being an artist - and leaves for LA. Now after a year she is back. The story was as expected - a couple who have many misunderstandings and barriers to overcome before a happy ending. Seeing what those barriers are, and how they are overcome, is part of the reason for settling for this read. The author is from New Zealand - and the story set on the wonderful South Island. A magical part of the world, and one I plan to return to for a visit, very soon. Jessica Randall made a promise to her father on his deathbed that she would take care of the family estate. Enter Game Dumont, a neighboring rancher nine years her senior who will buy her family property, thus saving it from the greedy land developers, but on one condition: she has to marry the son of a witch and produce an heir. To complicate matters further, her BFF--and long-time crush--Damon Hart has recently walked out on his very pregnant (and very annoying) wife, Kayla, having decided he'd rather be with Jessica instead. The one thing that bothered me most about the book was the whole "blackmailed bride" routine. It may be a tried-and-true category romance favorite, but it's also the kind of plot device that makes reading a book hard, because everyone looks like an extra from Dallas. And maybe it's just me, but nothing ruins a perfectly good book quite like a sudden and irrepressible mental image of Patrick Duffy in the nude. Highly inappropriate sexual fantasies aside, Singh's style was well-balanced, providing just enough direction to move the story along without slowing down the pace with unnecessary passages of mindless narrative. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

HTML: How else to describe the pact Jessica Randall had made with wealthy New Zealand rancher Gabe Dumont? In exchange for marriage and an heir, he would save her family property. The agreement was calculating, completely devoid of any tenderness, just like the man himself. Their relationship was supposed to be a simple arrangement. Instead, it was fraught with secrets and mistrust, jealousy and ultimatums--emotions that wouldn't allow her to maintain the distance she needed. Worse, the sizzling attraction between them made this marriage of convenience decidedly inconvenient. .Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
