It's not a boy meets boy, boys have sex, story ends type of thing that is all too common in yaoi. It is certainly a very sweet story, but it's not without drama and heartache. I found myself really caring about what happened with the characters. I would really recommend this to those of you that find yourselves burnt out on the heartless smut that makes up so much of the yaoi genre. ( ) The pain about reviewing yaoi is that when something is mediocre for it's type... There's really not much else to say about it, what with how identical all the mediocre offerings in the genre can be sometimes. First we have the story of two friends, mutually attracted to one another, who in the beginning find a way to finally express how they feel about one another and start a relationship. The rest is dealing with the usual nervousness of finally having sex, and getting that less expressive member of the couple to be more up front about their feelings. It's decent, for me just barely on this side of entertaining, but not enough to make me not wish when it was over that I could have done something else with the time I spent reading it. The next story is about a man who must either undergo a highly risky heart operation, or die in a couple years. They're in a relationship with a man, but they can't have sex because of the weak heart problem, and they both decide the best thing to do is angst a lot, and in the case of the heart-problem-free side of the couple, sleep around with women who look like their TRUE love. Yeah, I didn't like this one as much. For the most part it's written about as competently as the first I guess, but the characters love and motivations just didn't come across as well. In particular, the non-ill character's offhanded sleeping around came rather out of left field. Not to say a person in that situation wouldn't become sexually frustrated and have reason to act that way, but as it is presented here, with the kind of personality the character was given, it just didn't make sense. In addition, the ill character's forgiveness of this makes him seem like a complete doormat. Consequently, I found them both difficult to sympathize with. Negative as I sound, and despite my lack of ability to really point out any greatly saving factors of this volume, this wasn't as dull to read as some of the yaoi I've read recently, so I'll place it in the not-for-me-but-fine-if-you-like-generic-sweet-stuff category. I was so excited to find a new yaoi series taking place in the real world between two actual adults. No high school romance here (well, there are a few flashbacks to one character's doomed high school love), just a nice story about the love between a needy and awkward gay nerd and a suave happy go lucky bisexual surfer. And it's part of a series - only two, but at least there's more. There's also an extra story in the volume, a bit more melodramatic, about a art professor with a weak heart and the film student who loves him. näyttää 3/3 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
