Bernie Gunther is a private investigator in Germany during the time of Hitlers rise to power. He was a former criminal investigator for the German police, and seems to know a lot of people. He's not afraid to speak his mind, even when criticizing the Nazis, which he does often, or speaking up for the Jews. Basically, he seems to not be intimidated easily, and his usual answer to threats is a wisecrack. I enjoyed this book more than the first one, perhaps because I got to know the main characters a little better. Again, I chose the audiobook version, by the same narrator. This time I was able to follow the story better than the first one, possibly because I was ready for the multiple plots that seem to be normal for these books.
