The opening piece in this collection is Self-Portrait at Seventy, which is a remarkably unflattering interview Sartre gave to a newspaper in 1975, one which sprawls (should I say cringes) for 90 pages. The posture hasn’t aged well. Burn society down but remember I can only relate to young women. This strange melange struck as David Koresh’s Guide to Subversive Ontology. Of course I am being glib but I didn’t find much connection here. I did admire his contemplating his Flaubert project which though incomplete occupied him for the better part of fifteen years. The political essays at the end were a call to arms, though the barricades should quiet down around nine as Jean-Paul needs his rest. ( ) ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

Interviews with intellectual vigor: Sartre's preoccupations as a man and writer, autobigraphical reflections and reappraisals, a tartly provocative consideration of the woman's movement with Simone de Beauvoir, and on his monumental study of Flaubert. Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
