Spring 2020 (Animorphs Read 2020);

It's MyGirl's next book, and she's being extremely stubborn in it. I love that in our next chapter of the YOLO & EVERYONE'S LYING SAGA, we've found out that acquiring DNA is not as simple and straightforward as we've all come to simply assume it might be. I find it very delightful and well designed that there are allergies, and some DNA's that will personally not mesh well with yours.

I wasn't surprised in the slightest about Rachel first not telling anyone what was going on, and I was even more baffled why any of the other Animorphs was surprised that Rachel lied about being better to make sure the mission was taken care of over the waiting/care of herself. Do you people called her *Xena: Warrior Princess* but not actually know what that means or have watched the character in that show at all? She'd absolutely 100% do that, too. And does. And has. And would.

Fun fluff series that gets less and less fluff over time. ( )

There have been some reviews that dimiss this as a filler novel, but I disagree. It was great to see Rachel and Cassie have a chance at being young girls for once. Plus, this has my favorite '90s references thus far. Casse's fear of embarrassment is hilarious. Her mom thinks that Boys II Men is pronounced Boys Eleven Men, first of all, and she may have been led to believe that NIN means Nice Is Neat. Whatever it takes to get mom to buy that CD, I respect that.

Some new intel has pointed out that the Yeerks are planning a PR campaign that will go a long way towards making 'The Sharing' the hottest organization in the country. I'm talking about the plan to enlist Jeremy Jason McCole, teen heartthrob star of "Power House", as the new spokesman for the group.

Obviously, Jeremy Jason McCole and his pouty lips are a reference to Jonathan Taylor Thomas of "Home Improvement" who was indeed in every teen and tween magazine out there in 1997. I guess you had to be there. Rachel and Cassie, much to the boys' consternation, are thrilled at the chance to rescue him from the Yeerks, but there's a problem.

Rachel has been having issues with morphing lately. Scary issues that involve unexpected morphing. This was a fascinating problem to throw into the books and a future hazard that could be revisited. I like the extra mechanics of morphing and Andalite technology that are being thrown in. I don't think I read this one growing up, soon I'll be completely into new territory. Reading on.

Sorry if there's SPOILERS in here.

In the first chapter, Rachel morphs a crocodile in order to rescue a kid who falls into the croc enclosure at a zoo- a reckless move she barely pulls off without being discovered. Later she finds herself suddenly out of control- her body morphs animals randomly, and she can't stop it. Her elephant morph destroys part of her house, luckily avoiding harming some of the family members who are home. It's something different to see Rachel feeling vulnerable, and talking about what it's like to live in constant fear, but not letting it take over your life. She hides her alarming problem from her friends for a while. Then the team discovers that the enemy have a new plan to convince a TV star who has a huge teen fan base to accept a Yeerk- so he can then bring in masses of young people to their side via the Sharing (most idiotic name ever for a youth group, ha). The kids are desperate to put a stop to this- the boys don't really get it until they see how Rachel and Cassie fall all over themselves in their eagerness to get close to the guy as part of the mission. Rachel uses the internet (first time I notice it mentioned in the series) to find out where he's going to be- coincidentally there's filming taking place near their town- and the team converge on a private yacht in the form of seagulls. Rachel's morphing goes out of control again, attracting the attention of the enemy leader, and they narrowly escape. Their next plan is to meet the star on a talk show- because Rachel got on the local news for "falling into" the crocodile pit- though what they actually intended to do is unclear. I don't think they knew themselves. Rachel fibbed to her teammates that her problem with morphing was over- but it wasn't, and they find themselves frantically trying to control a wild crocodile on live TV while Rachel is morphed as a bear, Marco as a llama and Cassie as a squirrel. It was pretty darn funny. Of course they just manage to get out of the situation without blowing their cover again.

I liked this one better than the last- it had plenty of amusing moments and witty remarks by the kids. The descriptions of Rachel facing fear, feeling uneasy and baffled at her morphing condition, was pretty acute. Also how she momentarily lost her sense of human self while being a seagull. Marco as a llama really made me chuckle.... The concept of what caused Rachel's problem was pretty unique- something I didn't see coming, which made me sit up and take interest. I also like how ridiculously infatuated the girls were with this teen idol, until they heard him talking on the back of the yacht and realized he really had an unpleasant personality. They ditched their admiration in an instant, but still wanted to save him from being enslaved by the Yeerks, just because it would endanger so many other people. Good, fun read.
