Happy Birthday to Me is an anthology of hysterical poems about birthdays. It is filled with rhyming poems, fill-in- the blank poems, birthday song poems etc. This book encompasses birthday topics in their full capacity from relatives, cakes, blowing out candles, guests (those who are welcome and those who are not) and gifts. I think this book would be loved amongst kids and it could be used as a great way to integrate reading as a part of a child’s birthday.

I stumbled across this book while searching for poetry books. Since children (and adults for that matter) seem to like Birthday’s, I thought this themed book would be a great addition to my library. The poems are funny and written in a joke like manner so who wouldn’t enjoy it? I think it will be fun to pull out at my children’s birthday parties or to share in the classroom on a student’s birthday.

I love the fill-in-a-name poems in this book. Making the poems personal will really get kids interested in the poems. As a classroom extension idea, I will model this writing style in my classroom and ask the students to write poems or stories of this nature. I will also use this book on student's birthdays. I think it would be a neat idea to read a poem from the book each time a birthday is acknowledged/celebrated in the classroom. We could even go one step further and ask students to write a short poem to the birthday child. ( )
