I have read a lot of books--over 100 in 2012 alone--and Isaac Asimov has written a lot of books--over 400. In fact, sitting on my almost bare bookshelf (don't ask), are a half a dozen of these novels. Still, before Robot Dreams, I had never read a single word written by the sci-fi legend.

Robot Dreams is 364 page book of short stories; some good, some great, but none of which left me confused, bored, or angry; feelings I often encounter while reading short stories and/or books over 350 pages long. Many of the stories were connected and Asimov definitely has a distinct style, but there still wasn't anything repetitive in this book.

Soon enough I'll read another of his books. And then another and another ( )

¿Cómo influirán los robots en la vida de la humanidad? ¿Qué papel desempeñarán en un futuro más o menos lejano estos extraños mecanismos creados por el hombre casi a su imagen y semejanza? Asimov nos brinda aquí narraciones que sin duda moverán a reflexión. Las historias aparecen espléndidamente ilustradas por Ralph McQuarrie, diseñador de numerosas películas de ciencia ficción.

As most folks note, there are surprisingly few robot stories within, though the first few in the collection and the title set the reader up to expect more. To be fair, there are a fair number of stories here focused on a computer AI, often with either malevolent intent or cluelessness about humans amounting to the same thing. Some of the stories are dated, not in their Science Fiction quotient but in the provinciality of the human characters. Asimov's rare imagination is regularly on display. Another cool element, the illustrations were created by Ralph McQuarrie, who worked on the original Star Wars movies and won an Academy Award for special effects for Coccon. They are a nice addition to the book.
