The first reason I enjoyed this book was because of the language. The author used definition boxes in order for a reader to quickly comprehend a new vocabulary word they don’t know. Another example of vocabulary is directly inserted into this sentence: “a Hindu might have been born a Braham (priest), a Kshatriya (solider), Vaisya (merchant), or a Sudra (worker).” The author makes it easy for a reader to fluently comprehend new academic language. The illustrations in this story also help enhance the readers understanding of Gandhi and his culture. For example, there are maps of India, specifically British India. Along with photos at the top of historically relevant people, places, and things for the reader to learn more about. I also liked the details of the authors writing because he included interesting details about Gandhi. For instance, it says “Gandhi found learning geometry particularly difficult.” The big idea is the message of peace and freedom for everyone everywhere. ( ) This was a great short biography on Gandhi and his accomplishments. Although not very detailed, this book provides an outline of the legend Gandhi. It is a great book to introduce students to who are studying historical figures. This book presents Gandhi as a man of truth even through his humble beginnings as a school kid. Ultimately, this love for truth will spur him to lead millions of Indians from British rule. Honestly, i think this book should not be limited to young readers, even adults who have little understanding of Gandhi will find this book to be helpful because it supplies various facts on Gandhi. Gandhi was born during the time England ruled India, his home country. Gandhi despised lying even as a kid. One time his teacher tried to help him by encouraging him to lie but Gandhi didn’t know why so he ignored her. Gandhi married Kasturbai at the age of 13-years-old. As an adult Gandhi did what his mom wanted him to do, become a lawyer. So he took a ship to England and went to a university where he got his degree. Later on Gandhi’s degree helped him “fight” for the unity and self rule of India. Gandhi never ever used violence, he was ageist it, and tried to teach all his fellow countrymen to do the same. Gandhi also had 10 extra principles. By all these things he was able to accomplish his goals. This was a good book a really good book. I would rate it a 5 stare *****. I recommend this book if you are doing a report. This is also good if you just want to learn more info. I liked this book because I found out what and how Gandhi fought to get India free. This book surprised me for what Gandhi did for what he believed in. That is what I liked about this book. näyttää 4/4 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
