"From former Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger, a gripping account of the January 6 committee, examining the forces that led to the attacks on the Capitol. On January 6, 2021, America watched in horror as a violent mob led by right-wing extremist groups stormed the U.S. Capitol in support of then-President Donald Trump. It was one of the darkest days in recent history, yet to former Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger it was also the culmination of a cultural and political rupture he'd known had long been building. Constructive criticism from within the Republican party was no longer enough. It was time to act-not just for the sake of the soul of his party, but for the very future of our country. Despite vitriol from the media, fellow colleagues, even members of his own family, Kinzinger became one of only two Republican members to join the House select committee to investigate the January 6 Capitol riots. Now in Renegade, he reveals the inner workings and surprising findings of the committee he served and helped lead, including how the bloody attack on the Capitol was indeed foreseeable and even welcomed by President Trump. Along the way, he examines the forces that allowed such an attack to happen in the first place, from the misinformation campaign waged by Fox News and partisan media to the inculcation of extremism in families and faith communities, and draws from his own personal story of faith, military service, and politics to unpack his most crucial decisions that eventually led him to break from his own party. Part memoir, part searing examination, Renegade offers a searing account of one of the most tumultuous events in recent American history-and the devastating consequences of letting extremism go unchecked, so that the events of January 6 may never happen again"--… (lisätietoja)

yikes, talk about divisiveness! not only does he slam various segments of America, in particular within the Republican Party, but he sometimes does so truthfully while at other times slams individuals and groups based on a caricature or outright misrepresentation based on stated errors of fact not mere opinion, so that for me the book that started out sounding so reasonable, progressed to sloppy, unsourced accounts of events, unsupported assertions revealing both lack of knowledge and understanding, and all that told harshly. What a mess, what a disappointment. For example, the author falls for the red herring "birther" narrative rather than the separate natural-born citizen controversy -- which actually is non-partisan as it is an Article 2 Constitutional requirement, and a huge issue for Republican Party given DeSantis, Ramaswamy, Hayley, Rubio, Cruz, Sununu, etc) -- of course this was not a 20th century problem given McKinley, TR, Taft, Wilson, Coolidge, Hoover, FDR, Truman, Ike, JFK, LBJ all had non-immigrant parents as the immigrant explosion of that century hadn't yet produced people of age running for President. Now we have a whole segment of the population not voting, sitting out elections, in disgust of this matter, with Republican Party oaths of loyalty (thus contestants having no standing to contest), and instead of treating this with history and law (i.e., the Constitution, Madison, etc), the author just restates oft-repeated (but false) assumptions and made up assertions with no citations. This is a lazy, poorly researched book, a mean book (ex: slamming Gateway Pundit as "fringe," ridiculous, do some research), a deceptive book, and to me it seemed a self-serving book. ( )

I started writing this introduction on January 5, 2023, two days I was supposed to end my time in Congress. Kevin McCarthy, head of the GOP caucus, was expected to become Speaker of the House on January 3. Instead, those who joined the government to tear it down reached the logical end of their effort - utter chaos that paralyzed the legislative branch. -Introduction
The appalling events examined by the House committee investigating the lethal attack on January 6, 2021, was too long even for me, a member of the panel, to track. -Chapter 1, What Do You Stand For?
