Tämä arvostelu kirjoitettiin LibraryThingin Varhaisia arvostelijoita varten. Very cool concept. I love that with each cocktail there are multiple ways to make them instead of just one standard reciepe. Cannot wait to keep trying these! I'm not much of a drinker but I appreciated the thought that went into each drink. I'm looking forward using some of the recipes to impress people. This fun little bar book suggests cocktails based on Greek mythology, and may be the most playful book of recipes you'll ever own. Each of the cocktails is preceded by the legend that led to its creation; the author then explains why he chose the ingredients he did, based on the legend. (It seems mostly spot-on to me.) I like the fact that there are three versions of each drink: the "Zeus Edition," which specifies the precise ingredients by maker and makes no compromise; the "Hades Edition," which may be simpler, uses more standard ingredients, or both ("If you were in the underworld, it would have to do"); and the Aphrodite Edition, which tends to be a little sweeter and easier on the palate. But sometimes the difference is small: I fail to see how using pineapple juice instead of simple syrup would make the Pygmalion cocktail any sweeter. The author has refined taste and the ingredients can get very specific. The "Hades Edition" will probably work best for the typical home bartender. The book is kind of a blast and will certainly shake you out of your doldrums if you're tired of mixing up the same old thing. NOTE: I received a review copy of the book which, judging from other reviews, is smaller than the book offered for sale on Amazon. I like the myths chosen and I really enjoy the author's logic when explaining why they chose the ingredients they did when coming up with each concoction and how the thought process was inspired by the myth. I also like that there are variations of each drink so you can make it sweeter or less sweet. My only complaint is that some of the ingredients are a little hard to find and I'm not sure what else I would use them in so, I'm not eager to spend a ton of money on very specific alcohols that I'm not sure how to use outside of these 1-2 cocktails. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
