A picture book with rhyming text, which tells young children what to do with money they receive. Financial education should start young, and if very young children are given money in some families, this could be useful. The book is colorful and appealing. ( )

I like the money management concepts of this book, but the writing and storyline felt forced. I can imagine a story that starts with a kid opening a birthday card from grandma containing a large amount of money (for a kid). The kid isn't sure what to do with the money and has a conversation with their grownups about it that leads to a lesson save/spend/give. However this book, written in rhyme, starts with a grownup prepping a kid for an exciting birthday party where they'll get lots of money. Right off the bat it felt weird and forced. The lesson is delivered in a sing-songy way, using words that sometimes make sense and sometimes are just there for the rhyme. Overall it feels like a missed opportunity for a better story with the same lesson.

Haisley’s Birthday Money explains basic money concepts in a fun memorable book. It is a book I wish I had when I was a child, I didn’t know anything about money. I had never heard of Save and Give, all I knew was Spend. If children are taught about money correctly when they are young, they will become more responsible adults and they will never forget this cute book. Get if for your child.

This book was okay. Nothing spectacular or exciting stood out for me. The story is about a little girl who has a birthday and her mom teaches her the value of money. How to save it, how to spend it whether it be for herself or someone else or for charity. Redeeming values is that it rhymes and the illustrations are cute. Just an average story that did not impress me to give it a three star. ( )
