Shadow Charms is the second book in the Shelving Magic series. Paige Turner is an archive librarian at Shadow Harbour Public Library. Her job is to retrieve magical objects and books. Her partner is a teacup dragon named Dewey Decimal. In their last adventure, Paige was injured by a vampire, and the injury is not healing. Dewey is trying desperately to find a cure. They also have to avoid being found by the vampire who is still searching for Paige. At the same time, Paige and Dewey are given a new assignment to retrieve a dangerous wand from a group of evil pixies. The librarians have to race around the world retrieving magical artefacts and dealing with supernatural creatures. Paige’s origins, and the fate of her mother, continue to be mysteries that Paige and Dewey need to solve.

This is the second book in the series, and although I didn’t read the first, I found I didn’t have too much trouble figuring out what was going on. The book was a series of adventures full of fantasy and adventure tropes and slap-stick comedy. The beginning was a bit slow with some repetition of dialogue, but once the adventures started it moved fairly quickly. I found the book very silly, and some of the dialogue annoying. It was overall a fast, light read, appealing to fans of humorous fantasy. ( )

Paige Turner is back in all her klutzy glory. Seriously it has to be a curse to be that unlucky. Fresh from her recent world save Shadow Harbors newest librarian must race around the world to stop shrieking pixies from creating a weapon that can tear apart the world. Together with Dewey, her snarky teacup dragon partner, she must save the day...even if she has turned purple! The story fast paced with alot going on. Once again there are several elements that aren't addressed or explained in this book. The hoped for potential romance with the mysterious neighbor is no where to be seen. We still don't know why a beast was hunting her. All the unexplored starts with no answers is frustrating. It was basically a light read, with a few fun elements taking place in the library with her cat. Would love to see more substance I. The next book. I have received this book as part of the Librarything Early Reviewers program for my honest review. ( )

Much like the first one -too much rushing around, too much happening not enough background or details as to why. The characters even elude to it at one point 'I'd sure like to know why' but they never do get an explanation.

Each quest appears to require a trip to three different locations each with it's own hazards and monsters plus the background characters 'development'. Just one would have been sufficient. Strangely they also have to return to russia, but nothing is mentioned of their previous visit. Maybe the target audience is supposed to be much younger teens who constantly rush everywhere, but I'm not sure they'd really be inspired by a librarian however cool Paige actually is. her luck seem sot hav egradually improve without any mention of it either.

Book 2 in the Shelving Magic series. Paige Turner (groan), is an archive librarian at Shadow Harbour Public Library, where she is responsible for retrieving and archiving dangerous magical objects and books. Paige is still a klutz. Her partner, Dewey Decimael (groan) is a teacup dragon and ace researcher. There are many coincidences, lots of action, and they spend a lot of time being captured and escaping, and travelling by private jet to various countries. Paige's hunky upstairs neighbour still has no reason to exist so he’s likely being set up for a role in a future book. Really very similar to the previous book in the series, with different antagonists and mcguffin. Not terribly original, but some funny bits and sometimes fluff is what I need.
