I had read how there is a trend in audiobooks to move away from the strictly narration and this book was mentioned. I found it very confusing--there were many characters and it was often difficult to figure out who was speaking. In addition, many times the transition between scenes would contain lots of sound effects but little information as to what was happening. My conclusion is that I want the old fashioned narration. ( ) If I had read this as a print book or ebook, I think I may have liked it more, but in this audiobook performance, I found it hard to follow. It was presented as a performance like a radio show, with lots of special effect sounds and music. And by "lots", I mean too much. In my opinion, it was distracting, and that made it even harder to follow. There was no narration to describe any of the characters or scenes, so I found it hard to remember who each character was. They just appear without context, making it hard for me to get any feeling about them until well into the story, when it's a bit too late, since it's hard to go back with an audiobook to search for characters. And, after all the work to get through the performance, it appears to be part of a series that is designed to continue on because the the bad guy is never caught or revealed, just thwarted for this one scheme. An aborted raid targeting a major arms dealer. A hostage standoff at a bank that may not be what it seems. A plot to spring a former African dictator from prison. What is the threat that connects them all? And just who is the mysterious mastermind, The Starling? From Mexico to Washington - from London to Marseille to Prague - war crimes investigator Harold Middleton and his team of Volunteers risk their lives to follow the trail of clues. But how can they stop The Starling - when he always seems one step ahead? Not much to write home about here. The plot was run of the mill. The interesting part was that this is an audiobook which is an actual audio performance which made listening to it a bit like listening to the golden oldie radio shows of yesteryear. An interesting experience versus an interesting read. Listening to this audio book is a bit like listening to an old radio show. It's open dialogue between characters and includes sound effects. Deaver delivers more twists and turns than most action movies. I did not enjoy the ending as the readers gets some of the answers, but not all. Perhaps, these will be in book 4? I hate it when they do that! näyttää 5/5 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
