A solid middle entry in the Big Crimson trilogy. In the first book, protagonist Kyle saved the life of a vampire, Jim, by killing the infamous vampire clan leader, Zachariah Locke. Thus earning Jim's undying gratitude and the ire of all of Locke's followers. In this installment, Kyle joins up with others who discover the existence of vampires, including his teenage neighbor Jennifer, his landlord, and a local convenience store clerk who narrowly escapes being eaten. They must band together to keep safe from the vampires who have already come to town. Meanwhile the big bads are still on the way.
I enjoyed the additional lore that is present in this installment. You get to see a bit about Jim's history and Mr. Brown's backstory, as well as more about the antagonists. There are some good action scenes in this one, and the ending is pretty intense. I still want to know more about the pawn shop owner... What's his deal? I'm excited to see how the series will end. ( )
