On their 45th birthday, Josie Fair and Alix Summer are taken out to dinner at the same restaurant by their husbands. Josie becomes fascinated with Alix since she has the same birthday and later discovers they were born in the same hospital. They are birthday twins. Josie places herself in Alix's area so she can "accidentally" run into her. She suggests Alix do a pod cast of women about to change their lives featuring Josie. To her detriment, Alix agrees and records many hours of Josie's recitation of her life. After having Josie and Walter Fair over to dinner one Friday evening, Josie appears injured and bloody at Alix's house and Alix takes her in. Meanwhile Alix's husband, Nathan, has been going on "benders" which concerns Alix. After a week, Josie has to leave since Alix's sisters and children are coming for a couple of days and Alix is relieved to get rid of her. Then Alix's husband disappears--he does not return from a night out with his buddies. Alix begins investigating when he does not return home. Alix's account of this becomes a Net Flix original, Hi! We are Birthday Twins! It is difficult to tell just what is the truth in this story. At a restaurant celebrating their 45th birthday, Josie Fair meets Alix Summer, who is also celebrating her 45th! They are birthday twins. When they meet again, Josie tells Alix she wants to tell Alix her story. Her story is that she was groomed as a young girl by an older man. Alix creates a podcast to tell the story. Josie tells a tale of her daughters, and her husband, eliciting sympathy from Alix. But, when Alix's husband goes missing after Josie has wormed her way into their lives and their homes, Alix becomes very nervous. When you read the ending of the book, you wonder - what did you read? Was Josie telling the truth? Was she a victim? Or, was she pulling the strings? Another great thriller from Lisa Jewell. I know I'l be in the minority here with this review. After reading many reviews on this book, i expected a book that would surprise me and shock me. But that didn't happen. The book is ok, but very predictable right up to the end where Lisa Jewell throws in another monkey wrench from left field, and then ends the book. No closure. No finalization. Just more questions. I don't like thrillers that are, first of all predictable, and then they end with a totally different scenario, that leaves the reader hanging. I did give the book 3 stars because it is fairly well-written, and the characters are well-drawn (even though I didn't care for the two protagonists). I thought I'd try another contemporary thriller as I've been disappointed a lot with this genre lately So many good things were said about this book, but it just didn't do it for me. It is just another dysfunctional family with an unreliable narrator, but there are a few added twists that kept it interesting enough. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
