Prima tweede deel, dat niet als een tussendeel aanvoelt, zoals wel vaker het geval is, maar het verhaal op een spannende manier voortzet. Met nieuwe personages die allemaal wel iets aantrekkelijks hebben. Niks als voordelen dus. (

The war for Krynn continues. There are a few familiar characters from the original trilogy, mostly elves due to their very long lives, but this is mainly about a new group of heroes and how they make their way in a Krynn that is vastly changed. Very much in the original style, a little drawn out, but still excellent. (

Lost Star, the second in the War of the Souls trilogy entertains from start to end. There's plenty of suspense, a little intrigue and a killer finale, something that usually lacks in the middle part of trilogies. The characters, already well established from the first entry continue to fight for survival, Weis & Hickman show no fear in making the lives of our heroes uncomfortable and miserable. The tone of Lost Star is dark, making for a great third book in which the good fight must come to an end. Lots of small encounters keep up the pace although there is a fair amount of padding at times. Definitely worth reading, thankfully the authors have offered more than just as a tease to the final book. (

Weis and Hickman continue their tradition of writing engaging fantasy novels that keep the reader interested. Evil forces are taking over Ansalon in force. The elves are getting destroyed, as are all the other good forces. Dragon overlords and their armies are moving across the land, while Mina and the One God continue to conquer everything they touch.

The book, however, does seem to have a slow takeoff, despite the interesting storyline. Chapter 30 of this book is entitled "The War of Souls Begins." So the first book in the series, as well as the first 29 chapters of this book are 'background' material. Probably too much time getting ready for the real War of Souls, in my opinion. (
