But it's based on my least favorite romance trope, misunderstandings. So many times he came within inches of learning her real age, and it didn't happen... Bah. Joachin was an idiot on multiple levels, though he made a good tool for solutions eventually. Nice setting, too, and great descriptions. I might even reread it (which is very rare for a misunderstandings story). ( ) This is one I reread every year or so. Dorothea, a young English girl, is 18 and is stuck in a convent in Spain during the Peninsular Wars. She finds Sir Douglas Matlin wounded in the convent garden and nurses him back to health. He offers to escort her back to London. She can not travel alone with him so they marry for the journey. But the nuns convince him that she is only 15 or so. He is very attracted to her and on the journey gets feverish and makes love to her. Oh the angst before they figure out the problem. näyttää 2/2 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
Hidden in a convent in Bonapartist Spain, Dorothea Cannowen seizes her only chance to return to England. When she discovers a stranger, wounded and delirious in the convent garden, she nurses him to health--then begs him to take her back to England with him. But to do so--to preserve Dorothea's reputation--Douglas Matlin counters with a proposal: marry him now, and have the marriage annulled when they reach London. Neither of them can know that the dangers of a journey through enemy territory will bring them closer together, or that that closeness will threaten Matlin's plans and Dorothea's happiness.
