I have learned a lot from this book and it is now in my Wordsearch Library. If you read my blog it is a regular daily post. It makes me dig deeper in the psalms. I once considered the Psalms to be merely poetry, but when you consider that a lot of our praise and worship songs come from Psalms you see the value of praise. ( )

One of the best volumes ever written, not only for Spurgeon's Commentary but also for his quotations from others, including Puritans and Reformers on the Psalms, love it!

(Note: "Die Schatzkammer Davids" is based on "The Treasury of David", but part of the book was replaced with quotes from German scholars.)

Mehr als nur ein Kommentar, dieses Werk ersetzt eine halbe Bibliothek. Denn Spurgeon bietet uns nicht nur eine versweise Auslegung jedes Psalms, in 20jähriger Arbeit hat er zudem eine lange Liste von Zitaten anderer Theologen zusammengestellt. Abgerundet wird das ganze durch 'homiletische Winke', also Anregungen für die Predigt-Vorbereitung.

"Die Schatzkammer Davids" ist allerdings keine reine Übersetzung von "The Treasury of David". Einige der 'selteneren' Auslegungen wurden gestrichen, um Raum für deutsche Theologen zu schaffen – wie auch der Untertitel sagt: "in Verbindung mit mehreren Theologen deutsch bearbeitet". Ich persönlich vermisse die gestrichenen Teile, weil mich die gesamte Bandbreite der Auslegung interessiert, und benutze daher zusätzlich die englische Ausgabe.

This set is in two volumes, though there are three volume sets also. This is still the best commentary on the Psalms ever written. Every preacher planning to deal with the Psalms needs this set. Electronic versions are available, though I have not found them as useful as the actual books. ( )
