I love a good caper novel, and this features all of the best attributes. It’s got snappy patter, compelling characters, a vintage feel, and a moody location. ( )

Under the table is how Arlene pays employees at her Toronto television production company (because she’s Smurfing, laundering money by making it disappear), which means that she has a tempting safe full of cash the morning after production wraps. More than one of her employees has their eyes on the pile. Add a giant rubber chicken and a serious crush on Billy Idol, mix in a little cross-dressing, and the book is probably more fun than the never-to-air comedy they’re supposed to be making.

Touted as a "snappy heist novel," this nostalgia-filled story left me with mixed feelings. I enjoyed the '80's references, and a couple of the characters were a hoot, but the overall story just felt muddled and incomplete. ( )

I really wanted to like this book, enjoyed the eighties references and having been on the fringe of filmmaking, I understood about production companies. But trying to follow the cast of colorful characters and the heist of the cash payroll was somewhat muddled for me. I couldn’t relate or like the characters and the story bounced around with stuff that didn’t further the plot. Sorry it wasn’t for me. ( )

Honestly, I just couldn't get into this book. It's a little all over the place and I just kept finding myself lost where the book was going. I can usually place myself in tbe book- good or bad - but not with this one.

I really wish I could have liked this. The plot seemed like something I would have got into. ( )
