Squirrel promises to divide her pie into sections for her animal friends if she wins the pie contest. "Squirrel did make one more pie. She cut it into four pieces, so everyone had a fair share." (Moncure, 1988, p. 29) Another gem in Moncure's Magic Castle series. This time, her young animal characters learn about math as they explore sharing and dividing up pastry goodness in the form of acorn pie. Frog, Mouse, Squirrel, and Pig begin to understand the importance of fairness as well as some math concepts of fractions in discovering different ways to cut a pie so they all can enjoy it together. The illustrations cover a lot of the page and they are colorfully stylized. Another memorable classic Moncure, one of the biggest promoters of childhood education and literature. It is a terrific series to introduce to beginning readers. A great book to introduce names of animals, food, and some basic concepts in math. The book opens with a great great poem that talks of a library being a magic castle full of word windows(books) that children will want to touch and open to began new adventures. From there the story begins with a squirrel baking a pie. The aroma of the pie flows outside which attracts her friends and neighbors who ask squirrel to share the pie. But squirrel would rather save the pie for the pie contest and then share the pie with her friends after. As each friend asks about eating the pie, math concepts are introduced to show parts/whole. The last two pages of the book show different methods to cutting a pie and finding out how many pieces pies can be cut into. näyttää 3/3 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
