I really enjoyed reading the last book in the Danger Never Sleeps Series. Ava has had a hard life and she has already lost one parent and gets and early discharge from the military so that she can spend time with her mom before she is gone too. While visiting her mom, she is attacked and fortunately FBI agent Caden is nearby to help save her. They team up to find out what is going on and to try to stop the killer before he strikes next.

I received a copy of the book to read, the review is mine ( )

Note: This is a book I won from LibraryThing's Early Reviewer Program back in May 2021. I had given up on receiving it, but it finally arrived in September. The Early Reviewer Program does request a review (though it is not a requirement) but the review is expected to reflect your true thoughts on the work.

What I liked:
*old friends reconnecting--and finding something deeper
*the network of friends (Brooke, Ava, Heather, Sarah/Caden, Gavin, Zane, Travis, Asher)
*that Ava is able to defend herself/take care of herself. She isn't totally reliant on "the man" to come save her.

What I didn't like:
*there's a lot of secrecy and a lot of one agency not wanting to tell the other agency what they know. I can't help thinking that if there had been more information available, the murders might have been solved long before they were.
*The ending is a little formulaic for this genre--the woman gets captured by the bad guy and that's the impetus for the two main characters to realize they should take a chance on loving each other. In this case, Ava does have the skills to somewhat fend for herself and she's not totally reliant on Caden to come to her rescue. ( )

Bestselling Christian fiction author Lynette Eason brings her Danger Never Sleeps tetralogy to an electrifying finale with “Hostile Intent.” As with the previous three books in this series, this one can be read as a standalone, although there is strong character overlap and therefore spoilers; having previously read only the first book so far myself, I still encourage everyone to read all of them for the pleasure of the plot intricacies and the obvious research that has gone into them. Even as someone who typically shies away from contemporary military stories, I could not put this book down, and it definitely increased my heart rate a time or two!

From the first page, “Hostile Intent” ratchets up the suspense and lays the foundation for an intense romantic thriller. A caveat is necessary for those who are profoundly disturbed by the murder of children, as well as violence and torture because they are integral to the plot, but Eason handles these sensitive issues with grace and leaves out graphic details. As such, while this may not be a light read, it does take on the all-too-real brutality and antagonism that fuels so many in modern society, offering some insight into how this type of behavior comes about and where it can lead when left unchecked: “Just two more families and his mission would be complete, his promise kept. His grandmother was wrong. Vengeance didn’t belong to God. It belonged to him. And it tasted sweet.” However, teaching someone to hate another person or group of people for any transgression, perceived or real, will never lead to a positive outcome for anyone.

Amidst this backdrop of reprisal, Ava Jackson, who recently left the Navy to care for her dying mother, finds herself somehow involved in a case of several murdered families, of which hers might be next. Working with FBI Special Agent Caden Denning to put the puzzle pieces together before time runs out, the duo uncover secrets that someone went to great lengths to conceal—and keep that way. Just as revenge can be a powerful motivator, so too the desire to protect the ones you love, even at the cost of personal sacrifice. After all, Jesus Himself showed us that sometimes the most unpleasant situations can lead to the most blessed destinations. As Caden remarks, “It’s funny how life can throw you a curve ball when you least expect it—or how God can change your perspective.”

This is only the second book that I've read by this author and it affirms what I thought after reading the first book. "This gal can write!" From the first sentence to the last, Lynette Eason kept me turning the pages to see what was coming next. Hostile Intent is filled with suspense, intrigue, and scene after scene of action and danger. Ava Jackson finds herself being hunted and FBI Special Agent Caden Denning pledges to protect her, but it's apparent that it won't be easy. There are intense scenes that made me wonder if the good guys would actually win, and there are other moments when I found myself actually holding my breath!

Hostile Intent is also a fascinating study of a friendship that many wish for, and a sweet romance that most of us long for. Ava, who has never had a third date, and Caden, who would love to be Ava's permanent date! Can he keep her safe long enough to achieve this goal?

Twists, turns, and numerous secrets make this a thrilling story that you won't want to miss. I recommend it to all who enjoy clean romantic suspense.

I have not read a Lynette Eason book that I have not loved. This fourth book in the series Danger Never Sleeps reminds me of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy with its cast of characters from FBI, CIA and other agencies. It is another thrilling story with cameos of characters from previous books. I like that this group of friends is there for each other when one needs support, be it physical, spiritual or emotional.
This was a wild ride for Ava and Caden, childhood friends who are becoming closer as they track a killer. The story was fast-paced with lots of action and many questions to be answered, along with interesting information about puzzles, hacking, and what makes a criminal tick. Ava and Caden try their best to thwart the person who is after Ava and seek to outwit him before he succeeds in kidnapping her. But other emergencies get in the way and the killer will not let up!
Fantastic ending to a terrific series that cements Ms. Eason as an all time favorite author.
