It is a truth universally acknowledged that a reader of one Dresden files novel must be in want of another. (Sorry, Jane Austen. You did not deserve that, but something must have hexed my keys.) This one has Harry and his Knight of the Cross buddy, Michael, trying to get an unhappy ghost out of the neonatal ward at Cook County Hospital. There are also Nightmares (with a capital N) to fight, and a scary costume party hosted by Red Court Vampires. Never, never try to get in without a valid invitation, because then rules of hospitality just don’t apply, and you may become one of the canapes. 4 stars. ( )

Another great book by Jim Butcher! This time I listened to the audio book read by James Marsden, who did an awesome job. It kept me entertained while I was stick in bed with the flu. :) We're back in Harry Dresden's turbulent life and he yet again battles the Supernatural.

There are ghosts, vampires and a posessed skull with a posh British accent. Love it. ;) ( )

First re-read since my first read about 13 years ago.

If you're looking for fast-paced, male-centric fantasy with a self-proclaimed knight-in-shining armor type as the lead, you can't beat Harry Dresden.

(Before anyone says anything, Yes, I realize Harry has some issues. Yes, I know there are problematic bits. But I still had a good time.)

Lots of vampires in this one and demons, yeah. ( )

Hmm, I don't know. Although in the end the book worked itself up into middle ground, I just don't think this is written in a style I much enjoy. It all feels like some long high school essay. Short sentences, simple words, cliches, etc. Somehow not even worth a filler book for me. ( )
